# Key Concepts

> Understand Mira's core concepts: AI Agent sourcing, Shortlist delivery, MRE, and Browser Extension for extended reach.

Here's what the key terms mean when you see them in Mira. No jargon, just what you need to know.

***

Agent [#agent]

Mira's AI that executes tasks on your behalf. When you describe what you need, the Agent takes over, understanding requirements, searching, evaluating, and delivering results. It works independently on execution, but involves you at key decision points.

Task [#task]

A single sourcing request. Every time you describe a role and start a search, that's a Task. Tasks are saved in the sidebar, so you can come back to any search anytime, pick up where you left off, ask for more candidates, or adjust your criteria.

Shortlist [#shortlist]

What you get back from a search: a curated list of candidates who match your requirements. Each person comes with their name, current role, work history, education, an AI-written summary of why they're relevant, and contact details.

Industry note: in classic recruiting workflow, **Shortlist** specifically means a narrowed final list (typically 3 to 6 candidates after outreach and screening), while the broader sourced result is called a **talent pool**. Mira uses 'Shortlist' as the product name for what's returned by a Sourcing task. We follow the product name throughout these docs.

Mira Browser Extension [#mira-browser-extension]

A Chrome extension that browses the web on your behalf. It can log into LinkedIn, company websites, your ATS, and other platforms to search for candidates and gather information. Useful when you need data that's not in Mira's built-in sources.

MRE (Mira Reasoning Embedding) [#mre-mira-reasoning-embedding]

MRE is what makes Mira's search results better than keyword matching. It stands for Mira Reasoning Embedding, but you don't need to remember that. What matters is what it does:

* You say "5 years of experience" → MRE calculates from actual career timelines, not profile tags.
* You say "someone with 0-to-1 experience" → MRE understands you mean early-stage company building.
* You say "high-growth company background" → MRE infers from company size, funding history, and growth trajectory.

It's reasoning-based matching, not keyword search. That's why you can describe roles naturally instead of crafting Boolean strings.

Credit [#credit]

The unit you "spend" when using Mira. Searches, contact retrieval, and Mira Browser Extension sessions each cost credits. Your monthly plan includes a credit allowance. See [Pricing](/en/docs/overview/pricing-and-credits) for details.
